Customize your dashboard

Dashboard customization decides which widgets appear on a dashboard and in what order. You arrange the layout for a dashboard type, save it, and it becomes the arrangement you see when you sign in.

Required role: Administrator.

  1. Go to Settings → Customize.
  2. Choose the Dashboard type.
  3. Drag a widget by its grip handle to move it.
  4. Select the eye on a widget to hide it, and again to show it.
  5. Select Save layout.

You arrange one dashboard type at a time, chosen from the picker.

OptionDescription
AdminThe company-wide dashboard. This is the one an arrangement takes effect on.
ManagerThe team dashboard managers see.
EmployeeThe dashboard an employee sees.
InstructorThe dashboard an instructor sees.

The catalogue differs by type. Where a type has no widgets available, the screen says the catalogue is empty for it rather than showing a blank page.

Only the admin dashboard reads a saved arrangement

Section titled “Only the admin dashboard reads a saved arrangement”

This is the limitation to know before you spend time here. The administrator dashboard is assembled from the saved layout, so reordering and hiding change what you see. The manager, employee, and instructor dashboards render a fixed arrangement and do not read a layout at all.

You can still select those types, arrange them, and save. Nothing rejects it — and nothing on those dashboards changes as a result.

Example: Priya Raman rearranges the manager dashboard at HC Corp expecting Olivia Bennett’s screen to change. It does not. Olivia’s dashboard shows the same panels in the same order as before.

Treat this screen as customization of the administrator dashboard, and take a request to rearrange anybody else’s as something to raise with Humavera rather than something to configure.

The eye toggle hides a widget from the dashboard without taking it out of the layout. A hidden widget keeps its place in the order and can be shown again with one click.

Example: Priya Raman hides two widgets she never reads from her admin dashboard at HC Corp. Nothing is lost — the widgets are still in her layout, and turning one back on puts it back where it was.

The screen marks the layout as having unsaved changes as soon as you move or hide anything. Leaving without selecting Save layout discards the arrangement.

Reset to defaults returns the layout to the standard arrangement for that dashboard type, which is the reliable way out of an arrangement you have made worse.

Layouts, defaults, and what other people see

Section titled “Layouts, defaults, and what other people see”

A saved arrangement is a layout you can name.

OptionDescription
RenameGive the layout a name you will recognise.
Set as defaultMake this layout the company default for its dashboard type.
DeleteRemove the layout. The dashboard then falls back to the company default where one exists.

The distinction to keep straight: saving a layout changes what you see. Setting one as the default changes what people without their own layout see. Somebody who has already arranged their own dashboard keeps their arrangement.

Example: setting a default admin layout at HC Corp gives every administrator who has never customised their dashboard that arrangement. It does not overwrite Priya Raman’s, because she has one of her own.

An administrator’s arrangement takes effect on their dashboard the next time it loads. Customization changes what is shown and in what order — it does not change what any widget counts, so a widget you dislike reading is still the same figure when you move it.
