Create a course

A course is one item in your learning catalogue, with its own description, modality, and cost. Creating it produces a draft — it does not become available to learners until you add content and publish it.

Required role: Administrator.

  1. Go to Learning → Course Library.
  2. Select Create Course.
  3. Under Basic Information, enter the Title, and a Code if you want one rather than the generated default.
  4. Choose the Category and Sub-category.
  5. Write the Short Description and the Description.
  6. Under Course Details, choose the Modality and Difficulty, and set the Duration (minutes) and Language.
  7. Set Max Enrollments, or leave it empty for unlimited.
  8. Choose the Instructor.
  9. Under Pricing, set the Cost and Currency.
  10. Complete the remaining sections as needed, then save.
OptionDescription
Self-PacedOnline, taken whenever the learner chooses.
LiveOnline, delivered at a set time.
ILTInstructor-led, delivered in person.
BlendedA combination of delivery methods.
ExternalHosted by an outside provider.

Choosing External reveals an External Provider section with a Provider and a URL, and the URL is required — an external course is a link to somebody else’s platform, so without it there is nothing for a learner to open.

Example: HC Corp UK Ltd records a vendor certification course as External with the provider’s name and the enrolment link, so completion is tracked even though the content is not held in Humavera.

Two separate sections, and confusing them is the most common mistake on this form.

OptionDescription
Related Skills & CompetenciesWhat the course is about. Used for catalogue search, filtering, and recommendations. Awards nothing.
Grants on CompletionWhat the learner is credited with on completion, at the proficiency level you choose.

The form says so directly: related skills do not automatically award proficiency on completion.

Example: a course at HC Corp UK Ltd related to a technical skill helps James Whitfield find it. Only a grant updates his skill profile when he finishes.

Grants are applied without downgrading anyone — a learner already at the same or a higher level is left untouched.

Nominating a Certification Template auto-issues a certificate to every learner who completes the course. The form shows what will be issued and whether it expires.

If the chosen template is not active, the form warns you that it will not auto-issue until it is. Check that before relying on it.

The Cost is recorded per learner. A free or internal course enrols someone immediately when it is assigned; a paid one routes for approval first. Cost also feeds budget calculations when learning paths are generated from skill gaps.

Example: assigning a free internal course to Tom Hargreaves enrols him straight away. A paid external course for the same person goes for approval before he is enrolled.

MandatoryRequired for all employees or specific audiences.
FeaturedShown prominently in the course library.

The course is created as a draft. Add at least one content item, then publish — a course cannot be published without content, and learners can only enrol once it is published.
