Find and apply for an opportunity
What this achieves
Section titled “What this achieves”The marketplace lists the work your company is offering to the people already in it. You can filter it, see how you compare against what a role requires, and apply without leaving the page.
Required role: Any signed-in user.
- Go to Opportunities → Browse.
- Search by title, code, or description, or narrow the list with the Type, Status, Department, and Work style filters.
- Select View on an opportunity.
- Read the Overview and the Requirements, and check Your skill gaps for this role.
- Select Apply.
- Write your Cover letter.
- Set Submit anonymously if you want your identity withheld from the applicant list for now.
- Attach a Resume / CV if you have one to add. This is optional.
- Select Submit application.
Your gaps are shown before you apply
Section titled “Your gaps are shown before you apply”An opportunity shows you how you compare against its requirements, requirement by requirement, with your current level against the level the role needs. Where published courses cover a gap, they are listed with it.
Read this before deciding not to apply. A gap of one level against a preferred skill is a very different thing from missing something the role marks as required.
Example: James Whitfield opens an engineering opportunity at HC Corp UK Ltd and finds he meets every required skill and is one level short on a preferred one, with a course listed that covers it. That is a role worth applying for.
If you meet everything, the page says so rather than showing an empty list.
What anonymous actually means
Section titled “What anonymous actually means”Submit anonymously hides your name from the applicant list while your application is being triaged. The page tells you the limit of it: your identity stays hidden until you are shortlisted.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| While submitted or under review | You appear on the applicant list without a name. |
| Once shortlisted | Your name is visible. |
| Once interviewed, offered, accepted, or rejected | Your name is visible. |
Anonymity buys you the triage stage. It does not keep an application private through to the end, and it is worth knowing that before you rely on it.
Applying does not ask your current manager for anything, and they are not told that you applied. A permanent move is a separate step that they are asked to approve.
Opportunity types on the list
Section titled “Opportunity types on the list”| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Full Role | A permanent move into a different role. |
| Gig | Short work alongside your existing role. |
| Project | Defined project work with a start and an end. |
| Secondment | A temporary placement elsewhere, with a planned return. |
Check the type before applying. A gig is extra work on top of your job; a full role means leaving it.
When you cannot apply
Section titled “When you cannot apply”| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Already applied | You have an application in for this opportunity. Track it under My Applications. |
| Applications closed | The opportunity is closed, or its application deadline has passed. |
Some opportunities also cap how many applications they take, and show the count against that cap.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”Your application appears under Opportunities → My Applications, where you can follow its status and withdraw it if you change your mind. If an interview is scheduled, its date and time appear there. The people reviewing the opportunity see your cover letter, your match score, and your gaps against the role.
