Read the org chart

The org chart draws your reporting structure as an interactive diagram you can search, expand, and export. It is one of three tree views in this section, and knowing which one you are looking at is most of the skill in using them.

Required role: Administrator.

  1. Go to Organization → Org Chart.
  2. Search by name, title, or email, or filter to a department.
  3. Use Expand all and Collapse all, or expand branches individually.
  4. Drag to pan and use zoom to move around, or Reset view to return.
  5. Select Export PNG to take a copy away.

They look similar and they answer different questions. This is the most commonly confused part of the section.

OptionDescription
StructureBusiness units, departments, and teams. The shape of the organization, independent of who works in it.
Org ChartPeople, drawn from each employee’s reporting manager.
Position HierarchyPositions, drawn from each position’s reports-to.

The org chart and the position hierarchy can legitimately disagree. A person may report day to day to someone who does not hold the post their position reports to, and both views are correct.

Example: at HC Corp UK Ltd an engineer’s position may report to a senior engineering post while the employee reports to a team lead. The position hierarchy shows the establishment; the org chart shows the working reality.

If somebody is missing or in the wrong place, the fix is on their employee record, not here. The chart says so when it is empty: it needs employees with a reporting manager set.

A person with no manager set does not appear beneath anyone. That is the usual cause of somebody being absent from the chart.

Example: a new HC Corp UK Ltd joiner whose manager has not been set is missing from the chart until their record names one.

Where a branch runs deeper than the chart displays, it says how many direct reports were truncated by depth rather than silently hiding them.

Read that as a prompt to expand or filter to a department rather than as the full picture.

Export PNG produces an image for use outside Humavera — a board pack, an induction deck, a planning session. It captures the current view, so set the expansion and filtering you want before exporting.

Use the org chart to check that reporting lines are what you believe them to be, particularly after joiners, leavers, or a restructure. Where it disagrees with the position hierarchy, decide which is wrong: the employee’s manager, or the position’s reports-to. Approvals follow the employee’s manager, so that side is the one with immediate consequences.
