Read gap reports
What this achieves
Section titled “What this achieves”A gap report compares what an assessment showed against what a job profile requires, and names the difference. It is generated automatically when an assessment completes, so the analysis is a by-product of assessing rather than a separate exercise.
Required role: Administrator or Manager.
- Go to Learning → Gap Reports.
- Filter by result or subject type, or search by name or job profile.
- Open a report to see the gaps behind the score.
What a gap is measured against
Section titled “What a gap is measured against”A gap report scores an assessment result against the requirements of a job profile — the skills and competencies that profile maps, with the weights and flags set on it.
That means the quality of a gap report depends entirely on the job profile behind it. A profile with no mapped skills produces a report with nothing to compare against, and a profile whose weights were never considered produces a score that treats everything as equally important.
Example: a gap report at HC Corp UK Ltd against a senior engineering profile is only as meaningful as the skills that profile maps and how they are weighted.
Critical gaps are different
Section titled “Critical gaps are different”Reports flag critical gaps separately from the count of gaps overall.
That follows from how job profiles work: a skill marked critical must meet the required level with no partial credit, while other mapped skills contribute in proportion. Someone can score respectably overall and still miss a critical requirement.
Read the critical count before the score. A pass with a critical gap is not the same as a pass.
Candidates as well as employees
Section titled “Candidates as well as employees”Reports cover both employees and candidates, and the list can be filtered by subject type.
That is what connects assessment to hiring: a candidate assessed against the profile for the role they applied for produces the same structured comparison as an existing employee assessed for development.
Example: HC Corp UK Ltd assesses a candidate against the job profile for the vacancy, and reads the same gap structure it would read for James Whitfield being considered for that role.
What the list shows
Section titled “What the list shows”| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Subject | The person assessed, and whether they are an employee or a candidate. |
| Job Profile | The profile the result was compared against. |
| Score | The score achieved. |
| Result | Passed or failed. |
| Gaps | How many gaps were found, with critical ones flagged. |
| Generated | When the report was produced. |
Treat a report as input to a decision
Section titled “Treat a report as input to a decision”A gap report is a structured comparison, not a judgement about a person. It reflects one assessment against one profile at one moment, and it does not know what somebody has done that the assessment did not ask about.
Use it to shape a conversation about development or a hiring decision that a person makes. It is evidence, not a verdict.
When there are no reports
Section titled “When there are no reports”An empty list means no assessments have completed for the filters you set, since reports are produced when assessments complete rather than on request.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”A gap points at work owned elsewhere. An individual gap usually becomes learning — a course or a path aimed at the specific shortfall. A gap that recurs across many people against the same profile is a hiring or job-design question rather than a training one, and organization-wide capability analysis lives in the skills and analytics sections.
